The Fear of Failure: Most of us fear to fail that we never even try at all. However, failure is an inevitable step on our way to success, and a step we need to take more than once. Failure is just an indication that we’re working towards achieving our goals. Embrace it, learn from it and move on. No need dwelling on it. Failure brings with it, packages of lessons and experience that makes you stronger, better and a more likely candidate to achieve success. Let failure be your fuel and for as long as you keep trying, you’ll get there.

You have failed only when you give up!

Being Complacent: One of the greatest harm one can do to oneself is to be overly pleased with themselves to think that no-one can add to(improve upon) what they have done. Whatever you’re doing today can be in improved and expanded. Complacency has been the downfall of many great talents and success stories. Many of the big corporations we have today would have being out of business, had they been complacent. The likes of Apple, Microsoft, Burger King, Mcdonalds, and Vodafone among others. We are in a world that is unceasingly revolving and progressing and hence we must make ourselves continuos learners. The only way we can remain relevant amidst the fast changing technology is to be perpetual students.

Talking without Corresponding Action: Most of us are caught in the web of talking. e.g., next year I’ll start my company, I’ll take the course next academic year, 5 years to come I’ll take my company global. Yes its good to talk and have clear cut goals, but, if this is not complimented with the necessary action, it will just be mere talk. And talks don’t get things done. Start by taking a step even if it is a baby step so long as you’re making progress. As stated by Martin Luther King Jr.“If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.” Action is a prerequisite for achieving success.

Self Doubt: Its acceptable if others doubt you and your capabilities, but is very suicidal if you doubt yourself. You’re capable, you’re enough, you have all it takes to be the expert you so desire to be. Believe in yourself always because there’s greatness within you. Your journey of greatness(success) begins by owning yourself; your strengths and weakness. Having self doubt is an already declared defeat, never doubt yourself no matter what!

Comparing: Comparism is distraction and comes with its own fleet of maladies. Comparing occupies you with trying to be better than the other person which ends in you losing focus on your goal. It’s not healthy to compare yourself with others. Their life goal most usually is totally different from yours.

Bruce Lee stated, “Always be yourself, express yourself, have faith in yourself, do not go out and look for a successful personality and duplicate it.”

Lack of Consistency: Consistency is key to any success story and a lack of it, is detrimental to reaching your goal. Follow through every step unfailingly to achieving your goal. Because these small steps accumulated over time, becomes miles traveled.

Feeling entitled: Most of us have a strong sense of entitlement. That others are supposed to do this and that for us and if they don’t we complain that we don’t deserve such treatment from them. Its good if others are helpful to you in achieving your success, but, don’t expect the world to come to a standstill because things didn’t go your way.
